To Own a Dragon: Reflections On Growing Up Without A Father

So...the time has come.  J.K. Rowling's last Harry Potter book and a new post. Both seem to be released about 2yrs apart.  With that, I've seen a lot of predictions on the events of the last book, so I thought I would chime in with a layout of questions I've commonly seen.

Who will die? Voldemort!  Outside of this, it gets tougher.  Voldy has to die, good must triumph.  However, I think Snape will redeem himself by sacrificing himself.  A Weasley will likely die, there are just too many of them, and probably 1 of "the 3."  Ron would qualify as 1 of "the 3" and a Weasley. Harry could die, I give him a 60% shot at making it. It is hard to kill off the hero, but I'm not so sure JK wouldn't do it.  I almost feel that if Harry dies, the series won't be as popular as a classic in the future. Those around him can die, but not our hero. Lots of death eaters, and a few of the Order, maybe Lupin, Kingsley, or Hagrid.  Wormtail will pay his life debt to harry and die. Malfoy, any of them, totally unsure. Bellatrix will die too(via Neville?).

Will Harry return to Hogwarts? Yes, for something, not likely for school.

How will the various relationships unfold/begin? If Hermione and Ron make it, they'll get together, but that is a big IF.  Fleur and Bill will be married, but there could be an attack during it.  They'll be together one way or another.  Ginny and Harry...I just don't know, not feeling very inclined to say yes. That just makes for TOO HAPPY of an ending, and we know JK has little problem with not making people absolutely happy. (A certain death in HBP?)

To what does "Deathly Hallows" refer? Horcruxes.  Another translation of the title is "Relics of Death."

Is Snape good/bad/neither? I trust Severus Snape.

General comments on the series coming to a close. I am a little sad, but I'm sure that I don't feel even part of what people that were along for the entire ride feel.  I didn't start until Year 5 was out, but read the first 5 in 2 weeks.  I read the books over and over and still love them.  I'll miss it.  JK has done something that no one else seems to be able to do, get an entire generation (if not more) to read.  God bless you Ms. Rowling! Thank you very much.

Extra Note:  This is more of a rant than a note, but anyway...

Why do some people find a need to attempt to spoil the last book for others.  Now, I don't mean someone accidentally says something or types it, or even hints, but I mean full blown, just to be mean, announce or yell or whatnot in a place where those that may care have a good chance of finding.  I've seen and heard horror stories of such, mostly with Harry Potter releases and I don't understand why people would get such a kick out of taking people's joy away, especially children.  It just seems like a cold thing to do.  I also don't see how it is entertaining either.

It also just seems wrong to break the hearts of so many people that actually choose to read. It just seems a shame.  I was actually going back and forth about whether to buy it on Amazon and avoid any potential spoilers or have the fun of going to the store to buy it.  I finally decided to gamble and go out, and hope.  People just amaze me sometimes.

In other news, I had a GI Joe DVD set on ebay, I guess it is out of print, but that sucker fetched 73$ used and that was on the low end of what they go for now.  I saw them on amazon for over 100$, that just amazed me.  I tried not to utterly screw people like that, or by charging outrageous shipping, and was impressed still at what it went for.  I'll miss it, but for that much $, I'll be ok I suppose.  I don't get that fortunate on ebay very often.  Unfortunately/fortunately, that pays for birthday presents.

So...a random thought or question...

Who is Jack Bauer's cell phone provider?  I mean seriously, the man always has coverage.  Jack: "I'm going underground, you can reach me on my cell!"  This isn't just figurative either, he's freaking going into a sewer and he can take a call crystal clear.  He could be on the south side of Mars and (riiiiiiiinnnnnnnnng) Jack: "This is Bauer."  Chloe: "Jack the hostiles are three doors down on the right." ....(blah blah blah)

Does he have his own satelite tower that follows him everywhere?

I bet the castaways on LOST wish they had Jack Bauer instead of Jack Sheppard.  He'd be able to simply make a call and the series would have been ,MAYBE, 3 episodes.

IT NEVER CUTS OUT!

I stand in my living room and my phone cuts out!  It sounds like someone beat-boxing in my ear.

So...I know I haven't updated lately, I'll try to fix that.  I explain later, but for the moment...a excerpt from an article I read.  This is by a wrestling announcer named J.R. (Jim Ross), but don't let that get in your way.  It isn't really about wrestling, he more or less just makes fun of the media for few thousand words.

So...I've been trying hard to be a good poster, but and am cramping.  I haven't had squat to say.  Usually I at least have some sort of soapbox to stand on, but I can't even say I have something I want to tackle, or feel like getting riled up about.

Things have just been busy with the whole moving thing.  I did get a bit of a shock yesterday as someone came to give us an estimate on what it would cost to jacket our garage floor that is slanted about 6 inch back into place.  I was expecting, oh, maybe $700, simple job, small, can't be a big issue, uh, no $1780 ouch.  Guess I'll just have to hope the car doesn't fall off the jack or something else doesn't fall on me.

With the whole job uncertainty thing, I've been lightly investigating other possibilities...I've actually thought about nursing (no male nurse jokes).  Through High School I thought I would do something in the medical field, but I started at TCTC (textbooks), saw some of the medical books' content and thought, "Over my head," but I may have aimed too high.  Nursing I could likely handle, and would provide kind of what I had planned on originally.  Then of course I think about it, and it still wouldn't be my ideal job, I feel like I'd rather be a engineer or machinist or something in racing.  I doubt that will happen.  For one, the direction would lead me almost completely opposite education-wise and would likely have to start near over, also I doubt Laura would really like the travel or possible relocation likely involved in a racing career.

Yeah, I've been watching Friends.  Bite Me!  On the bright side, Laura has actually requested to watch Family Guy.  Before you know it she'll be watching PTI, drinking a beer, and raggin' on Danica Patrick!

I want a Wii.  It just seems like fun.  Not to mention, affordable.

Is it obvious that I am straining for topics, oh well, sorry, to you all I send wishes of...

So...quotes from an article I read today by Michael Goodwin.

— Michael Goodwin is a columnist for the New York Daily News

"Baloney is on sale in Washington, and Bush is the Butcher-in-Chief."

"The fundamental issue is not immigration — it’s trust. Most Americans simply don’t believe the government will do what it says it will."

"Of course, nothing happens in Washington without a heaping helping of hypocrisy."
